The difference between vitality or tree decline and eventual death, is the care chosen. There is a mountain of difference between a logger, a general tree service, and who GREAT Mountain Tree Service is.
During the pandemic , we felt strongly about bringing the world of arboriculture to our area.
When establishments were shutting down, we took a leap and opened our doors. Four years later, we have our first ISA certification🍃
Our company focuses on tree vitality and Plant Health Care as a whole.
We use equipment from Big Names Like
Petzl , Pfanner , Arbpro, Rock-N-Arbor , ISC , Courant , Sherrilltree , TreeStuff, Rope Logic, Notch , Buckingham , Rock Exotica, Yale Cordage, Samson, DMM Whales, New Tribe, Elderid, Freeworker, Honey Brothers & Much more!
There are three levels of assessment that we provide at Great Mountain Tree Service.
Level 1: visual only (Included in free estimate)
Level 2: feel, measure, inventory, and listen
Level 3: Aerial inspections, decay detection equipment, etc
This is important ! We want to provide the best tree risk assessment that we can. Trees fail. It is important to know what the failure potential may be and how likely the entire tree OR part of that tree will break or fall (within a given time period).
Because most homeowners are unaware of their tree health, some trees that pose a high rate of failure potential May be overlooked .
The western Pennsylvania weather: ice, snow, and rain, all impact our overall tree health.
**We include level 1 assessments in our free estimates.
Food For Thought.
1. Think of Fountain Park (or any familiar spot) . Now mentally envision it without trees.
2. Allelochemicals released by trees have been scientifically proven to help with physical and mental ailments.
3. Trees increase value to homes and properties and can outlive many generations. So, it’s crucial to keep them in their best shape.
The Beals and Grandelis families are well known in our little town Of Franklin, PA.
Creating a company to make the families proud, is what it’s all about.
Nicholas’ great grandfather was the architect of the old Sibley mansion known as River Ridge.(shown here)
Stephanie’s grandparents were the late Rev. Alice D‘ Silva & Dr. Norman King Beals I. { Both of whom served the community and beyond.} Norman owned ( and worked) 7 farms, (while practicing medicine) one of which was the tree farm Stephanie grew up On.

1: How much does it cost to remove a tree?
It is situational and requires an estimate. Sometimes, there are trees in situations that are physically hard to get to while other trees have easy access. Some trees are against power lines, hanging over heavy traffic roads, etc. The cost to remove the tree depends on location, hazards, and what the customer would like to do with the material, once it’s down.
2. Do You Offer Free Estimates? Yes! but not FREE CONSULTATIONS
During our busy season (April-Dec), we generally conduct both on Fridays. They are FREE for a basic price for removals and prunes but we do charge for levels 2-4 assessments and for tree mapping. Our estimates fill up fast. We recommend Booking online now. During the slower months, we conduct estimates through out the week. Tree assessments cost 150.00 and payment is required prior to arrival.
3.Do you carry insurance?
Yes! We are fully licensed, fully insured, and have arborist/ mercantile licenses in both cities of Franklin and Oil City.
4. Do you plant trees?
YES! From fruiting trees to willows, we use an amazing vendor for all of our planting needs. The best part? Our products are guaranteed for 6 months. We offer maintenance plans for our trees too. GMTS is proud to say it has planted over 200 trees, since we opened in 2020.
5. Are there specific times of the year for specific pruning?
YES! Late fall is the time for oak pruning. Winter is the best time for most fruiting trees. Some of those fruiting trees need pruned right before spring. Our knowledge base comes from ISA ANSI-A300 and Penn State extension. We know when to prune these types of tree and we are one of the ONLY tree services that offers SPIKELESS pruning.
Ok, so some of the other guys have crane, buckets, stump grinders, and a team of ground hands. That’s a general tree service and not who we are.
We can tell you that it takes highly skilled professionals to be able to do what we do, without the heavy machinery OR the large crew.
In fact, we are known by having one of the SMALLEST footprints and the only All Rope Access companies around.
We also pride ourselves in our vast knowledge base, our educations, and our continued growth within the field.
Stephanie is an ISA certified arborist, and one of only 37 women who have achieved the ISA certification in THE STATE.
Nicholas is working towards his ISA climbing specialist certification, his safety certifications, and is aspiring to acquire his ISA certification, as well. The company has other achievements and certifications on the horizon, like TRAQ and BMCA.
We use tried and true methodology from Penn State University, TCIA, and ISA. (as we continually study from all three)
Our goal is to provide healthy, happy plants and trees for our environment.

When we created the company, we had our family in mind. Here we are pictured with our Grammy, the matriarch of our family. We had been hired to remove the two maple trees that had grown in the front yard of the property she has long time resided at. Unfortunately, the trees had been repeatedly topped, a practice we do not condone or perform, unless absolutely necessary (in preparation of removal).
As we enter our 4th year, we are beyond thankful to the community for their local support! Andy Warhol said it best. “ The idea is not to live forever, but to create something that will.” We hope that we can pass along tree care knowledge in a way that will inspire youth to continue caring for our local trees.

I educate about tree health to others as an ISA Certified Arborist. I also protect, plant, and provide consulting services for building projects. My end goal is to become a master in arboriculture .
